2008 Town Comprehensive Plan 


The Town is required by State Law to review its entire Comprehensive Plan every ten years.  The first Comprehensive Plan for Sullivan's Island was enacted in 1998. 

After a year-long review process, the Planning Commission presented Council with a draft plan on December 10, 2008.     After review Council has recommended the Plan for public feedback through a public hearing.

Public Feedback May 26, 2009 - June 15, 2009

Special thanks go to Holy Cross Episcopal Church for use of their "Great Room" and Hal Rose, Holy Cross Church Facilities Manager, for his assistance in preparing the space.

Summary (May 27, 2009):
Town Council presented the Town's DRAFT 10-year Comprehensive Plan to a crowd of approximately sixty (60) residents on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 6:00pm - 8:30pm at Holy  Cross Episcopal Church Great Room, 2520 Middle Street. 
Residents received background information on the Comprehensive Plan process from Mayor Smith, Real Estate Committee Chairman Councilman Pat O'Neil and Planning Commission Chairman Hal Currey. (approx 6pm - 6:40pm).
 Residents were then invited to visit "stations," manned by Council members, Planning Commission members and/or Staff, to learn more about the nine (9) Comprehensive Plan Elements and complete written comments on each Element.  (approx 6:40pm - 7:45pm)
Mayor called the meeting back to order to open the floor for verbal comments from the public.   Residents were reminded to pick up citizen feedback forms for each Element and return written comments to the Town by Wednesday, June 10, 2009 (see full information below). (public hearing ran approx 7:45pm - 8:15pm).

All members of the public disbanded and left the building by approximately 8:30pm.

NEXT STEPS: 

  1. Council will receive all public input (received by June 10, 2009) at the June 16, 2009 Regular Council Meeting (6:00pm, Town Hall). 

  2. After Council consideration of all citizen feedback, and after any potential Council modifications of the Plan, the Final Draft version of the Town's Comprehensive Plan will go through the regular Town Ordinance process for approval.

  3. Ordinance Process: First, Second and Third Reading; Ratification
