Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is comprised of seven (7) Sullivan's Island residents, appointed by Council, on a two-year, rotating basis.  This advisory committee to Council reviews zoning related ordinances, subdivision and re-zoning requests, holds public hearings, engages in long-range Town planning and other requirements as outlined by the State of South Carolina Legislature and delegated by Town Council.  The Planning Commission's Rules of Procedure (click to view) provides more information on the Commission's scope and procedures.

  • The Planning Commission meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 P.M. in Council chambers.

• Minutes of the Planning Commission meetings are not available until approval by formal vote of the Commission.  Therefore, meeting minutes are normally posted after approval the following month.

PLANNING COMMISSION NEWS

Town of Sullivan's Island Comprehensive Plan

A Town Comprehensive Plan provides a framework for identifying and assessing current Town assets and future needs, and an opportunity for long-range planning.  The Comprehensive Plan is a tool for elected officials as they establish policies and budgets, and for Staff as it executes those policies. 

Current Comprehensive Plan Status:

The Planning Commission finalized its review of the Town's Comprehensive Plan, initiated in January 2008.  On December 10, 2009 the Planning Commission passed a resolution to send to Town Council a draft version of the Plan with a recommendation for Council to approve it.  Council held a public hearing to gather feedback on the Plan and, after review, approved the final Plan by ordinance in 2009.
